5 DIY Coffee Scrub Recipes

One of the best things about coffee is how incredibly versatile the used up grounds are. Not only can you use them in the garden but you can also use them in DIY beauty products. Coffee on it’s own is a brilliant exfoliant but you can also mix it with other basic kitchen ingredients for all natural, low tox, make-it-yourself beauty treatments. Coffee can also tighten and smooth your skin - how ace is that? Seriously, is there anything coffee can’t do? Here are a few ways you can use your old República Organic coffee grounds on your body and face...

1. DIY Coffee Face Scrub

Mix 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, 6 tablespoons of very fine, spent República coffee grounds and few drops of your favourite essential oils. Store it in an airtight container and scoop out a 20 cent piece sized amount and gently buff your face in a circular motion. Rinse off and pout at your fresh face in the mirror. Winner.

2. Coffee Hair Treatment

Want to encourage stubborn hair to grow longer? For an excellent scalp and growth treatment, mix a few teaspoons of spent República coffee grounds in with your conditioner and massage it into your scalp. The caffeine can stimulate your hair follicles which gives them a bit of nudge to get growing. Some commercial hair growth stimulant products actually add caffeine - why not just use your coffee waste instead? Coffee can also brighten brown hair and give it some extra shine.

3. Straight Up Body Scrub

You can literally grab a handful of spent coffee grounds and scrub yourself all over with them. It can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite and it leaves your skin feeling super silky smooth. Also who doesn’t want to smell like delicious coffee after a shower?

4. Eye Mask Treatment

Allow your República coffee grounds to cool and pack them firmly around your under eye area - it’s amazing for reducing puffiness around your eyes. Lie still for about 20 minutes and gently wash the grounds away with clean water. Hopefully you’ll look like your under eye areas just slammed a double espresso. Each.

5. Coffee Hair Tint

Mix half a cup of coffee grounds with a little bit of water to make a paste. Apply it to your hair, wrap in plastic wrap and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse it away and it will have boosted your natural (brunette) hair colour!
